Council's Newsletter 2003

Dear Theatregoer,

This year, 2003, marks the 19th season of summer theatre at The Tin Shop Theatre as the Buchanan Area Fines Arts Council strives to serve you, our audience. The Council sincerely appreciates your strong patronage over the years and welcomes this opportunity to highlight this year's fantastic planned productions along with a chance to purchase season tickets for an exceptional value.

The theatre opens June 7 with the Doug Leiter Band. This Buchanan trio is a favorite with young and old. Featured are Doug Leiter, Terry Lovelady, and Tony Briggs bringing an evening of easy listening music the whole family can enjoy. Also included in this year's season ticket is the September 6th performance of accomplished singer Bev Hahn paired with 25 year acoustic guitar veteran Dan Geib.

Our first main theatre production June 26 and 27 is Ghostly Intrigue staged by Playhouse Productions. This lighthearted comedy features a mystery with three ghosts who have materialized and are haunting the Tin Shop Theatre. But - The Snoop Sisters Detective Agency is speeding to the rescue! The audience will be joining in on the action, the sing alongs with the actors and the discovery of an amazing secret!

For one weekend only, opening on July 18 are two one-act plays by Lisa Cripps. Moving Forward and Last One On were developed as companion pieces. Both have won recognition at regional acting competitions and have been performed around the state. Both look at facing life from different perspectives as voiced by the three female and four male cast members. Lisa is a talented member of the Twin City Players both on and off the stage.

Continuing the presentation of a yearly children's production for the third time, The Archer and The Princess will entertain the entire family beginning August 1. This clever adaptation of the classic Russian Folk Tale "Go I Know Not Where to Fetch I Know Not What" is written by Patricia Barry Rumble. The "child-friendly" curtain time is 7:30pm (MI). First time director Tammy Digirolamo will use her on and off stage talent and assistant director experience to stage this happy/scary tale.

Opening September 19 is the classic American comedy/drama, Arsenic and Old Lace written by Joseph Kesselring. Rumor has it that the play was written as a straight-up mystery-thriller, but the author was overruled by the producers. If it is true, this was the smartest decision a producer ever made! Director Scott Swisher last shared his considerable talents here on stage in the production of Orphan's Revenge and Dastardly Dr. Devereaux.

There you have it... our 19th season!

The price of the season ticket will remain the same exceptional value as last season, $42.00 for ALL six events! This fine entertainment bargain represents a 22% savings over the price paid when purchasing each ticket individually. Season ticket holders must also make reservations as soon as possible, especially for the limited performance night events. A Sunday matinee is also available for three main productions during each weeks' run.

Thank you for your unqualified support of the Buchanan Fine Arts Council/Tin Shop Theatre. Please help us in our ongoing efforts to bring fine entertainment to your community.

See you at the theatre! Our Theatre!

Sincerely yours,
Buchanan Fine Arts Council Members
