Council's Newsletter 2004

Celebrating 20 years of Tin Shop Theatre Productions!

Dear Theatregoer,

After enduring the unpredictably of Michigan's weather for many years, this year marks the first time we'll have air conditioning and heat for your comfort! The Council found our early June and late September productions often required the audience to bring mufflers and mittens! Action was taken to install a heat pump which could bring instant climate control to our little theatre! We are thankful for the continued support from Buchanan City Commissioners in this endeavor!

Our single night performances begin with the nationally known favorite comedian Craig Tourquist on June 11 and 12. Craig's comedy is clever, clean, and custom designed for your laughing pleasure. Rebecca Derbas (August 14) shares her professionally trained voice in a medley of familiar musical theatre selections from the classical to the contemporary. On September 11 the Deep Fried Pickle Project with guitars, kazoos, mouth harps, drums, and washboards performs their unique brand of American music which embraces blue grass. Folk blues, and honky-tonk.

The first main theatrical production (June 18-20, 25-27) brings or very own, very remarkable Linda Canfield back as the director of the Children's production "The Magical Lamp of Aladdin." Linda last appeared on our stage in the successful run of the play "The Old Lady's Guide to Survival." With Monroe Lemay as her able assistant, Linda promises an evening of Laughter for young and old with a delightful presentation of this classic children's story. Three matinees are available, so bring the kids!

For the first time since 1993, "The Company" players are back. Melanie Como continues to produce and direct this finely crafted cabaret troupe with her right ahand choreographer Wendo Como. A mainstay of musical talent in the Michiana area, we're sure you'll be singing and dancin when you join us on July 16,17,23, or 24. Don't miss their spirited production or you'll be sorry.

Talented director Scott Swisher returns to close our 2004 season with a sharply drawn chronicle of the lives of three former, small town cheerleaders as their friendships and outward appearances change in this coming of age play set in the 60s and 70s. "Vanities" is timed and choreographed with music from these time periods. Offered for your listening viewing pleasure beginning September 17.

Due to increased production costs and theatre maintenance needs, the council has raised single ticket prices to $10. However, you can still purchase a season ticket for all six performances at the reasonable cost of $45!!! A savings of 25%!! Remember when purchasing your season ticket, that reservations must still be made to ensure your seating on your preferred performance date for each production.

Thank you for supporting the Council in bringing fine theatre at reasonable prices to the Buchanan area residents and vistors. The council is greatful for your sustaining love of our theatre the past 20 years!

See you at the theatre! Our Theatre!

Sincerely yours,
Buchanan Fine Arts Council Members
